Oh, hahah. I found these in Kinokuniya. Even if they are in Japanese I’m really excited to have been able to pick these up. The one with the fairies on the cover comes with a music CD. c:
Free Comic Book Day 2012, Kinokuniya, Sydney
I got to meet Scott Westerfeld yesterday, author of the Uglies and Leviathan series. He also signed my copies of Leviathan and Behemoth but I have yet to read Goliath, I felt embarrassed when I said I haven’t read his Uglies series or Goliath. Every year at this time Kinokuniya Sydney is crammed with Marvel characters to celebrate Free Comic Book Day (FCBD). This year’s free goods were actually better than last year’s; I don’t remember getting a pack of trading cards. Coinciding with FCBD, all comics were discounted but I just wanted to purchase Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure #1 but since it’s uncommon to see on the shelves these days so I ordered it.
I was thinking about going in costume next year: maybe as one of The Doctors or finally cosplay as something from an anime. Since it would be my final year as an undergraduate, I desire to complete certain bucket list-style tasks and cosplaying is one I have had in mind for several years now. Maybe the looming sense of finality will persuade me to enact.
I was there alone. I feel disappointed but it is something I would not enunciate. Disappointed because someone had poor timing and arrived afterwards after running a surprise errand and also because someone else didn’t tell me that they too were in the same bleeding store but at a different time. I could’ve spent all day waiting, seeing as I lethargic. I want more friends.
Maybe the day would have felt more complete but I don’t want to complain.
The staff were also in costume.

WENT TO KINOKUNIYA YESTERDAY WITH STEPH and got these babies. I got Scott Westerfeld to sign Uglies and Leviathan (more on that later). But yeah. I was gonna get a free Buffy comic but since they had no more, I got Witchblade instead hehehe. I also got The Promise Part 1 for Edmund’s birthday. I guess I’ll be buying him the rest when they come out. AND X-MEN. omg all the comics were 20% but I was but I didn’t bring enough money BUT I WILL BE BACK. AKSLDJLANCLXKDASJKZKL
I showed my friend this picture of all the cosplayers at Kinokuniya today for Free Comic Book Day and asked him which characters he knew. Turns out, not many.

For example, these were the books I picked up within 20 minutes of browsing in the Sydney Kinokuniya. None of these titles are available for the Kindle (I think), and after agonizing for another hour, I decided to buy The Well of Loneliness and The War With The Newts. I knew these editions wouldn’t be carried in American bookstores, and I wasn’t going to waste time searching for them on Amazon, Book Depository or Fishpond.

Some of my favorite authors on these shelves right here. Murakami. Soseki. Banana Yoshimoto. Osamu Dazai. Actually I’m pretty sure I’ve read most of these back in my undergraduate days when I was taking Japanese literature classes. How I miss those days.
